Integral Blade Stabilizer

A COST-EFFECTIVE DEVIATION CONTROL PRODUCT
The Integral Blade Stabilizer (IBS) is manufactured from high-strength alloy steel as a single piece tool. The unitized construction features three spiralled ribs designed to minimize down hole torque, reduce damage to the hole wall and ensure maximum fluid / mud circulation. The IBS is well suited for use in most formations from soft and sticky to hard and abrasive. Vibration and drill collar whip can be reduced through the placement of stabilizers in the BHA and upper drill collar string. They also help control hole deviation, reduce the risk of differential sticking and can help ream out doglegs and keyseats.

It is available in both string and near-bit / bottom hole designs, providing the flexibility to run it anywhere in the BHA

All Stabilizer Forging bodies are manufactured from modified AISI 4145H chromium molybdenum alloy steel that conform to ASTM A-370 requirements. Mechanical and chemical properties of the steel are recorded in the relevant Mill Test Certificates and these are supplied with all IBSs. The Mill Test Certificates guarantee a hardness value in the range of 285 to 341 BHN and an IZOD impact value of 40 ft-lbs. at room temperature at one inch below the surface. All the mechanical and chemical properties meet the requirements of Addendum 3 of API Spec. 7-1 (latest edition). All trepanned IBS forgings are precision bored and drifted to API specifications.

blades are spiral milled in either left hand (LH) or right hand (RH) in three main configurations:

Wide Open - 150° to 210°

Open - 210° to 270°

Tight - over 270° to 360°

The blades are an integral part of the tool body, thus eliminating the risk of leaving components or pieces in the hole. Blade diameters are ground to a maximum of 1/32” under gauge on all hole sizes. When the blades wear down to an unacceptable diameter, the Stabilizer can be removed from the drilling assembly and returned to an approved machine shop for redressing to full gauge size.

Stress Relief Features: API Stress Relief Features like Relief Groove on Pin Connections and Bore Back on Box Connections are optional features that the customer can specify.
Cold Rolled Thread Roots: Cold Rolling of Thread Roots is another optional feature that is available to the customer.
Type of Hardfacing: Hardfacing is applied on the leading edge as an additional protection (optional). Information on OTI’s Hardfacings can be found on the appropriate data sheet.

ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS

  • Hole size.
  • Drill Collar Size / Fishing Neck Diameter and ID.
  • Type of Stabilizer – String or Near Bit.
  • Size, type and location of connections, Eg: NC 50 BOX Up x NC 50 PIN Down
  • Sprial Type – Wide Open / Open / Tight.
  • Cast or Pressed Steel Thread Protectors.
  • Special Optional Features as desired – Stress Relief Features, Cold Rolled Threads & Hardfacing Dressing information.
