Rotary Kellys

All Rotary Kellys manufactured at OTI are made from modified AISI 4145H chromium molybdenum alloy steel. These rotary kellys are heat treated over its full length and further water quenched to obtain the mechanical properties in accordance with ASTM A-370.

Mechanical and chemical properties of the rotary Kelly bars conforms to the requirements as listed under Table 15 of API RP7G. The Mill Test Certificates guarantee a hardness value in the range of 285 to 341 BHN and an IZOD impact value of 40 ft-lbs. at room temperature at one inch below the surface.

All kellys are precision-bored by trepanning to provide true bores and drifted to API specifications.

Upper and Lower connections on the kelly ends and the centre drive section are machined along full lengths. Machined drive section area is further inspected to verify smooth surface finish, using sleeve gauges as mentioned in API 7-1.

Please note that the short boreback relief feature is standard in the Upper / Top Upset Box Connection.

Where applicable, kellys that meet the requirements as specified in relevant section of API Spec. 7-1 (latest edition), are stamped with the API Monogram

At OTI, all kellys are supplied with pressed steel thread protectors and boxed in plain shipping scabbards. Rat-hole scabbards can also be supplied on request from customers.

SPECIAL OPTIONAL FEATURES:

Stress Relief Features Application of Stress Relief Features on pin connections are as per customer needs.

Cold Rolled Thread Roots Cold rolling of thread roots are recommended for better performance of the kellys.

  • Lower / Bottom Upset Outer Diameter Size and Length.
  • Lower / Bottom Upset Connection Size and Type
  • Special Optional Features as desired.
  • If other than plain shipping scabbard is required.
