OTI’s Ezy-Change Type II Stabilizer is a convenient rig-replaceable sleeve-type stabilizer. This tool is designed around a rugged, one piece mandrel constructed of high-strength alloy steel with ample tong space for handling and extra length for re-cutting connections.

OTI’s Ezy-Change Type II is a popular choice for remote areas or where storage problems exist. One mandrel series can be used for several different hole sizes, reducing the need for a large mandrel inventory on location. The sleeves are easily changed on the rig floor either when changing hole size or when the sleeves have worn under gauge. This versatility also allows a convenient way to change the type of stabilizer wear surface to match drilling conditions. A simple / conventional plate type sleeve breaker (available on request) enables easy make-up and breakout

The Ezy-Change Type II is available in five tool series covering hole sizes from 8-1/2” to 28” and can be ordered as a string or near-bit / bottom hole tool. Hole sizes equal to smaller than 17-1/2” have three spiral blades, whereas larger sizes have four straight blades. Connections are machined and gauged to API standards.

  • Long mandrel upset length, fishing neck and bottom neck lengths; provide plenty of tong space and room for re-cuts / thread and shoulder repairs.

APPLICATIONS:

  • Mild to medium packed hole assemblies can be designed within the implemented cost in remote or space constrained locations.
  • Usable with pendulum and directional drilling assemblies.
  • Vibration and drill collar whip can be reduced through the placement of Ezy-Change stabilizers in the BHA and upper drill collar string.

SPECIAL OPTIONAL FEATURES:

Hardfacing: Hardfacing is applied on the leading edge as an additional protection (optional). OTI offers a full range of hardfacings. Information on OTI’s Hardfacings can be found on the appropriate data sheet.

  3. Mandrels and sleeves must be the same tool series number. All large sleeves (22” and up) must be run on series 96 mandrels.
  4. On near bit / bottom hole stabilizers, tools are provided with bit-box connections with a bit bevel diameter.
  5. Thread roots are cold worked (except bit box) and phosphate coated.
  6. The standard bore on all mandrels is 2-13/16”. Other bore diameters are available on request.
